After Tummy Tuck

The After Tummy Tuck Operation

Many people will go to great lengths to improve their physical appearance. There are those who willfully undergo plastic surgery to improve upon their facial features, while others undergo liposuction to remove excess fats. But another form of cosmetic surgery is also being viewed as an alternative for looking and feeling good. Abdominoplasty or more commonly known as the tummy tuck is a cosmetic surgery procedure performed to make the abdominal area more firm. This procedure is usually taken by those who have just had pregnancy or have just gone through a period of major weight loss. They take this procedure to remove any excess or unwanted fatty tissues from their lower to mid abdomen area.

What Happens Afterwards?
For an operation whose price range is from US$4000 to a jaw dropping US$20000, the after effects are usually inconvenient, painful and at times extremely life threatening. Since it’s a surgical procedure and uses general anesthetic the patient will be subjected to a rather demanding and excruciatingly long recovery period. This usually presents a scare for most recovering patients and it can prove to be very irritating and inconvenient. While in recovery patients will be required to avoid all forms of nicotine and full recovery may take up to 3 to 6 months. The scars will further fade away after the time period of the recovery. Heavy activity like weight lifting and engaging in physical sports is also highly discouraged as this could cause the wound to burst and some other complications.

Even though the tummy tuck is considered to be a safe procedure, like with any type of surgery, various complications may arise. A majority of these risks can be avoided if the patient carefully follows to the instructions given by the surgeon. However there are some rare cases wherein sever complications may occur and these cases include blood clots, thrombosis, cardiac and pulmonary complications or infections.
Infections and blood clots pose a serious risk after a tummy tuck, but they are rare and are often treated with antibiotics and drainage. To minimize the risks of developing blood clots, patients are usually advised to start moving around as soon as possible after the surgery. The other annoying thing about complications is that it tends to delay the healing process, which is long enough already. Some extremely rare cases would also require another surgery to prevent any further complications from happening.

The scars resulting after tummy tuck are often long, brutal, and are not a pretty sight to behold. They are also permanent. The size of the scar left from this procedure depends on the amount of skin removed, surgery techniques used, the surgeon’s overall skill, and the body’s ability to recover. Though the scar is visible it is usually kept beneath the bikini line to avoid being seen. They also take about 9 months to fade.
So tummy tuck is intended to make your appearance look good, but its after effects may say otherwise. So think it through before proceeding with this or any form of cosmetic surgery.
